11:03 pm - Grrrr!! THE WHOLE CREDITING OF ICONS IS B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T!!
Yes, in the past every time I posted a batch of icons I put those damned rules in the end (how ANNOYING, how did you not ever yell at me or something), but I was young and stupid, now I'm still young and still stupid but had I still been making icons now days I would never have cared if people credited me at all.
Hot-linking is wrong. Saying you made an icon when actually you, uh, didn't is...is only stupid, but I mean, wanna do it? DO IT! Whoever the fuck cares, maybe it makes you feel happy for a few minutes. Not commenting when taking? Maybe a bit rude, but hey, what the fuck eveeeerrrrrr, it's just freaking icons!
But NOT CREDITING? I'm telling you, whoever makes anyone feel bad for not crediting needs to take a deep breath and move on with life.
I WANT TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS. I did hassle Vamphile once upon a time about not having all of her icons credited? HAD I BEEN VAMPHILE I WOULD HAVE SAID FUCK ME MANY MANY TIMES.
Because...I know, I know when you make something nice you feel proud of it, but realize, please, that it won't ever hang in a museum or something, that the image you used isn't yours, that the textures you maybe used aren't yours, that in the end it's just pixels.
ANYWAY IF YOU WANNA USE MY ICONS YOU CAN USE THEM AND PUT 'SANTA CLAUS' IN THE CREDITING SPOT.
:P
(the icon I'm using doesn't have anything to do with what I'm rambling about but hey isn't Mel's mouth around Lindsay's nipple pretty?).
Goodbye.

Comments:
First of all: *nibbles joyfully on the pretty Ilaria* I miss you!*Squishes*
Second: Crediting for me has nothing to do with me feeling selfimportant or anything like that. It's just common courtesy to do it. Somebody makes something I like, I leave proper credit. I'm not gung ho about it (there was a time when I was in the beginning), but since I do take pride in what I've accomplished when it comes to graphics it's nice to know that others respect that and gives me cred by crediting. I wont kill anybody that doesn't, but I do feel a bit bitch slapped when it happens, especially if the icons are altered as well.
Third: *licks you in aaaaall the naughty places* ♥
Well I'm a lunatic and of course since before I was a little TOO worried about crediting others and being credited properly, now I don't care one tiny little bit if people credit my icons or not. My world is black and white ohohoh. No, actually, I think you're totally right and everything you said is true, and this rant was aimed at those graphic makers who obsess about being credited all the time, and you'll agree with me, there are lots. And they annoy me, maybe because there was a time when I was the one all omgomg IS THIS PERSON NOT CREDITING ME GAAAAAASP!!! xD
And while I still think there's value in icon making, I have to admit I downgraded it a bit not because I don't think you need the brains to do it well anymore, but simply because while it can be done well and even exceptionally, it's still something you do for free, and you share it with people because, I'm guessing, you want for your stuff to be liked and used and you know, even if you aren't credited for it, seeing it used should be reward enough, especially considering that the majority of people do credit so it's a minority who doesn't and anyone should be able to accept that a part of poeple won't credit them.
Finally, hallo, badbadpixie who changed her name and yes, I miss the old one a bit but hey! Zai sounds good too ^_^
*slobbers on you a bit* *nibbles you decide where*
Yup! I changed my name. I had grown out of the badbad part - and honestly, it wasn't something I really wanted to begin with. It was a last minute descision. "Z" is from Zoƫ and "ai" is... well... :P
As long as the non credit part has nothing to do with the rabid "I wont credit you cus iconing is STUPID! SUCKER!!"-fractions, I'm rather ok with it. It's the whole disrespect I can't stand, and that actually applies to any bad "netiquette" out there. It's basically just people being stupid because they can hide behind a net persona and not take personal responsability for their action. Sad, small and stupid. The Triple S People. :P
*giggles* Don't nibble there!
Yes it's common courtesy to acknowledge the work someone put into making something for the community, but commenting does that.
To me, the main reason I think crediting is particularly important is because it's the only way someone seeing an icon that they like can easily find out who made it, and then know where to go to find more like it.
It's incredibly frustrating to find something you like and have no way to find out who the artist/writer/maker is so you can get to see/read/buy more of their work.
Commenting does that, yes. When there's comments. But that's not always the case either.
Yes, but that's a different issue. I don't care if you thanked an icon maker by leaving them a lovely comment and sending them a $1000 tip and a dozen roses AND they specifically tell you not to bother crediting them. You should still credit them.
Because thanks and appreciation aside, each icon should still be credited so that people who want to know who made it can have that information. That way, should they so desire, they can get more icons by that maker, ask them where the image is from, ask them where they got that texture, find out what font they used, ask what techniques they used to make the icon, etc.
Of course crediting is the standard practice and the nice thing to do, but not only out of courtesy to the icon maker, it's also an important thing to do out of courtesy for the rest of the folks in fandom who see and like that icon.
I'm not disagreeing with you. ;)
I know. I was in the process of composing an addendum to clarify my prior comment anyway, and since we can't edit comments here (grrrrrrrr), I just replied to you with it.
By the way, all that said, I don't think people should get horribly upset if someone doesn't credit, or harass people about crediting. We're here to have fun and life's too fucking short to get all stressed out about something like that.
*giggles* It's ok. ;)
I think in the beginning most garphics makers gets upset. They're new at it and the time they put into each and every icon usually is insane so they have this love affair with them. Usually that need to be credited wanes with time. And you're right - it's just too much effort and takes too much time and energy to get worked up into a huff about it.
Oh, Flame, what you say is RIGHT. But SEE, the fatc is, some artists don't want to be credited because they are worried about people who might want to find more of their stuff, quite a lot of them feel thier ego surge and explode when they see their nickname next to their jewels in someone's userpic page ^_^ And, even if they ARE worried that people won't find them and their super fantastic creations of love, the worry comes from wanting more and more and moooore folks to squeal at their ENORMOUS TALENT.
See it makes me sick a bit :( I do know that for an icon lover, it's important to know who made what in case they really like something. Some times I would just like to see some artists not credited BECAUSE I'M PETTY AND CHILDISH AND I THINK IT WOULD PISS THEM OFF A BIT AND I WOULD ENJOY IT.
^_^
Well, tough noogies, I'm going to keep crediting you! So there! ;P
Well, hello Ilaria! How are you?
I'm full of shit!!! xD
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
It's been a long time, uh U_U
*mwah* *mwah!* *mwah!!*
